Delivery Schedule Update

Delivery Calendar

Our delivery/collection schedule operates on a week commencing basis, if you were to place an order today the following dates are the earliest your order would be available for delivery/collection.

Trussed rafter orders for delivery/collection on week commencing Monday 6th February and easi-joist orders for delivery/collection on week commencing Monday 6th February.

As always terms and conditions apply, the main one being that you have confirmed the sizes are correct (you can do this by using our online form here) and that your payment has cleared before an order can be manufactured and delivered. Payment can be made by one of the following methods:

  • Debit card (No surcharges) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)
  • Mastercard Personal - Credit card (surcharge of up to 2.09% applies) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)
  • Visa Personal - Credit card (surcharge of up to 2.09% applies) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)
  • Mastercard/Visa Business - Credit card (surcharge of up to 2.09% applies) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)
  • Cash in person (Delivery usually around 5 working days)
  • Cheque through the post or in person (Can take 5 working days to clear so delivery is usually around 10 working days)
  • Bank transfer (Can take 3 working days to clear so delivery is usually around 5 working days)

The reason we apply a surcharge to credit card transactions is to cover the cost of the commission charges that we have to pay to our credit card terminal provider for those payments made by credit card. For example if a trussed rafter roof package costs £5000.00 and the commision charge is 2.09% we would have to pay the terminal company £104.50, for that one job it may not sound like a lot but when we are supplying hundreds of roof & floor packages that total soon adds up. It is for that reason that we recommend using other payment methods for which Customers are not charged for making payment by such as bank transfer, cheque or debit card.

Easi with Wolf Systems – the future is on the horizon with Wolf Systems

Wolf Systems, stand S1554, Ecobuild, London Excel, 20 - 22 March 2012.

At this year’s Ecobuild, Wolf Systems will be launching ground-breaking new software. After eighteen months of development, and using the latest technology, the software delivers new opportunities for manufacturers involved in timber engineering construction.

The new software, which will be demonstrated on the stand throughout the show, utilises Autodesk’s Revit platform and, for the first time, opens up the possibilities of collaborative BIM working for timber frame manufacturers.

Wolf Systems will also be exhibiting the company’s easi-joist metal-web product. Originally developed to facilitate the installation of services through the floor zone, Wolf Systems’ easi-joist is now often found employed in place of solid timber studs in the walls to timber frame systems; as well as in both flat and pitched roofing construction.

Both specifiers and building contractors are making increasing use of the engineered timber joists offered by Wolf Systems’ manufacturers for a wide variety of applications throughout the building structure.

Such are the spanning and load-bearing benefits of the highly engineered easi-joists – underpinned by the flexible Wolf design software – they can be incorporated into a selection of situations at any angle between the horizontal and vertical. In turn, imposed live or dead loads are supported and optimum performance from minimum material usage is ensured. The easi-joist beam, stud or rafter member also allows the building designer to accommodate increased levels of insulation into the project with ease.

Karl Foster of Wolf Systems comments: “As a metal web beam, easi-joist not only provides ample open area within its overall depth for the routing of pipes, cables and even ductwork, the installer is also provided with a wide flange area. This simplifies the fixing of sheet flooring panels or roof decking and sarking; with the finished assembly offering an extremely solid feel.”

Individual beams are now regularly assembled into panel or cassette modules, furthering the offsite potential of easi-joists, while offering a close fit with industry priorities for sustainable, defect-free approaches to construction.

All Wolf Systems’ products – which range from nailplates for trussed rafters, easi-joist metal-webs for its metal-web joist systems through to its structural design and management software – are developed, manufactured and supported in the UK.

Building on the Isle of Man

So your planning a new build or even renovating an existing property on the Isle of Man and want the best for your roof and/or floor, well we can help with that.  One of the services we provide is design and manufacturer of trussed rafters and easi-joist metal web floor joists on behalf of Builders Merchants. On the Isle of Man we provide this service to MFBP Building Supplies in Douglas and Island Timber & Building Materials Ltd in Ballasalla. (Contact details at bottom of this post)

So why not give them a call or pay them a visit with all the details about your project.  They will then contact us, we will produce a design, and when requested manufacture your roof or floor, we will then ship your order to the docks, were MFBP or Island Timber will then take over and deliver your order to site.

If you don't want to go through one of our partners on the Isle of Man you can of course place you enquiry directly with us and we can arrange for an outside haulier to collect your order from our factory and deliver it to your site on the Isle of Man.  Please note however that delivery costs to the Isle of Man are beyond our control and are set by the outside haulier.

One of the biggest projects on the Isle of Man that we have been involved with was for the Isle of Man Government in 2002, we designed and manufactured the roof's for the Southern Group Health Practice and the Ambulance Station both of which are located in Port Erin.  Combined the two buildings consisted of well over 1000 trussed rafters, as well as additional infill timbers and metal fixings.  The entire project took about 50 hours in total to manufacture, we broke it up into five phases which were manufactured and delivered over a period of a couple of weeks, mainly because the size of each delivery is restricted to allow it to fit on the ferry but also so that we could continue manufacturing for our other customers as well.

Xmas and New Year Opening Times

We will be closing at midday today, Friday 16th December, and will re-open at 7.30am on Wednesday 4th January 2012. Weather permitting deliveries should restart towards the back-end of week commencing Monday 2nd January 2012.

If you wish to send us an enquiry during this time we would recommend using one of our online forms, email or the post as we cannot guarantee that we will receive all the faxes sent to us during the Christmas break. If you do send us an enquiry during this time please be patient if you don't hear from us on the Wednesday when we return to work, if there are a lot of enquiries it may take some time to work through them all.

easi-joist sizes and prices

Today we have updated the easi-joist section of our website to combine most of the information onto just the main page, rather than having half a dozen, which should now make it easier to find the information you are looking for. To make room for all this information on just the one page we have introduced a new full width page template which has done away with the sidebar, which only contained our twitter feed anyway, so that's no great loss.

In the coming months Wolf System Ltd will be producing technical information regarding the use of easi-joist as a stud wall in timber frame construction, as soon as that is released I will add it to the easi-joist Walls section of the easi-joist page.

The one thing that everyone hopes to find is an easi-joist price list, unfortunately we are unable to produce one, that's because easi-joist is available in multiple lengths, widths, depths and internal web configurations, as well as with multiple end support conditions, so producing a list that is easy to read and understand is near impossible. It is for these reasons that we have put together an online easi-joist enquiry form, which will allow you to enter multiple joist lengths and quantities and once we have received it we will send you the quotation as soon as possible.

Google+ Profile Links

On Friday Google released Google+ to Google Apps users which includes ourselves, we use Google Apps for our email, contacts, calendering, documents and numerous other Google Services. So on Friday we activated our Google profiles and Google+ so I then added links to those profiles to our existing About us page, you can also find them below.

On Tuesday we delivered a complete easi-joist pitched roof, today we visited the site to see how they were getting on with the installation. They have started by installing the pitched easi-joist roof joists for the smaller gable end while the finishing touches are made to the brickwork and steel beams of the main roof. We have uploaded the first couple of photos showing the smaller gable end to our flickr photostream.

easi-joist Pitched Roof Goes Into Production

Today we started manufacturing around 70 easi-joist pitched roof joists which are being used to create the roof structure over a single storey extension out the back of an existing property. The joists are designed for a 22.5 degree roof pitch to carry slate and a number of solar panels. I will be adding a section as well as a couple of photos of the joists over the next few days and then more photos as the joists are being installed.

We now accept enquiries for JJI-Joists

For a long time we have designed and manufactured trussed rafters for a local builders merchant, they also supply some of our structural wind bracing and process our timber through their onsite pressure treatment plant, we have now extended this partnership to include JJI-Joists of which they are an authorised distributor.

So send us your JJI-Joist enquiry and we will have the design produced by our partner, we will then produce the full quotation including joist hangers and anything else you request, if you are happy with the quote we will place the order with our partner who will deliver the JJI-Joists direct to site or we will collect them and then deliver to you on site.

JJI-Joists are structurally engineered timber joists that are constructed from a 9mm OSB web with C24 graded softwood flanges ranging from 47mm to 97mm in width, in depths between 145mm and 450mm.

easi-joist Stud Details Coming Soon

easi-joist timber frame and trussed raftersFollowing the delivery of another easi-joist timber frame and trussed rafter package earlier this week, we have been working on a number of details that can be put up on the website to help illustrate how easi-joist works as a stud to form a timber frame.

By the way the package we delivered earlier this week was similar to the Boar's Den Barn project, in fact the delivery address was across the road. We hope to be able to upload some photos over the coming week or two.

Update:27/04/2011: We have put together a few information sheets that show various construction details for easi-joist stud walls, until the pdf copies are uploaded to the site for you to view and download I have put the images on the E & H Baxendale Ltd Flickr photostream some of which can also be viewed in the slideshow below
